My Sexy Summer

She took a long sip from her champagne flute. Her floppy wide-brimmed hat danced in the desert wind. The match was exhilarating—the hard pounding of hooves, the crack of mallet against ball. Within seconds players raced from one end of the field to the other, chasing an elusive white target smaller than their fists. The even grass stood in stark contrast to sandy dunes. Spectators milled about as waiters circulated glass-filled trays carrying copious amounts of alcohol.

This is the first paragraph from my recent contemporary romance release, More Than Strangers. It was inspired by an actual summer day I spent in Dubai not so long ago. It had been over a hundred degrees Fahrenheit at the equestrian club, but I remember being surrounded by beautiful people who looked like they had just walked out of a Polo Ralph Loren photo shoot.

Since I have an active imagination, I couldn't help but wonder what would happen if one of those gorgeous women slipped away with a polo player after the match. Tall and lanky, with sweat-drenched hair, rippling muscles, and intense gazes, those guys were certainly sigh-worthy. The romance author in me filled in a back story. A man who could afford to own those gorgeous pampered ponies would be rich and powerful, and he probably wouldn't object to sneaking a kiss or two by the stables.

And thus my quick little novella set in Dubai was born--it acquired some suspense by the end, but the beginning is all about a sexy summer day in a scorching Middle Eastern desert. (My actual day was less sexy, but still quite fun.)
